Notification No. ESS 39/79/Pt. 1/43-45, dated the 2nd September, 1980. - The Lt. Governor (Administrator) of Mizoram is pleased to make Rules for award of stipend to students from Mizoram admitted to approved Sainik Schools as approved by Govt, of India, Ministry, of Education and Culture (Department of Education), vide their letter No. F. 8-11/79-Sch. 6, dated 12-8-1980 with the concurrence of the Ministry of Finance, vide their DY No. 4743-1 FD/80, dated 30-7-1980.
1. Short title and commencement. - (1) These rules may be called the Mizoram (Award of Stipend to Students from Mizoram admitted to Approved Sainik Schools) Rules.
(ii) They shall come into force at once.
2. Eligibility of stipend. - Selected students from Mizoram for admission to Sainik School in Imphal or any other approved Sainik Schools in India, whose parents/guardians are bona fide resident of Mizoram will be awarded stipends in order of merit for a period of six years or till the students complete their course, whichever is earlier.
3. Amount of stipend. - The amount of stipend awarded to the students under Rule 2 shall be as under:
(a)

Tuition fee

Rs. 3500 per annum

(b)
|
Clothing allowance
|
Rs. 500 per annum for 1st year and Rs. 250 during subsequent
years.

(c)
|
Pocket money
|
Rs. 150 per annum.
|
(d)
|
Caution money
|
Rs. 150 to be refunded at the time of leaving the school.

(e)
|
Journey expenses from home to school and back at the time of
initial admission and subsequently for coming home and returning
to school during authorised school vacations
|
Actual second class railway and bus fare plus Rs. 10 per day
for food will be given for the to and return journey twice a
year.

4. Application for stipend. - Application for award of stipends must be submitted to the Director of Education, Government of Mizoram through the Principal of the Sainik School concerned stating full particulars. In forwarding the applications to the Director of Education, the Principal of the School will forward the applications in order of merit of the students according to the results of their entrance examination and also in order in which they are recommended.
5. Parents or guardians to bear the balance of the expenditure. - No candidate is eligible for the stipend unless his parents/guardians are agreeable to bear the balance of the estimated expenditure of the candidate at the school which is not covered by the stipend money.
6. Conditions for the award of renewal of stipend. - A stipend once awarded to a student will be continued throughout the period of his studies as indicated under Rule 2 in the Sainik School; provided that-
(i) the student makes satisfactory progress in his studies;
(ii) no adverse report regarding discipline, character, conduct, etc. of the student is received from the Principal;
(iii) he does not enjoy a stipend/scholarship or any form of financial assistance from any other source.
7. Government to have right to modify the Rules. - The Government of Mizoram shall have the right to make any addition of alteration in the procedure in detail given above, in case it feels satisfied that such charges are conductive to better results.
8. Expenditure involved. - The expenditure involved will be met from the sanctioned budget provision of the Government of Mizoram.
